Canada is turning 150 and there’s no better way to celebrate than a slice of good old-fashioned homemade Canadian pie. Come on down to the Fort St. John North Peace Museum (9323 100th Street) for some homemade fruit pie and ice cream between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. It’s been a Canada Day tradition for decades. Friday, May 26 at the Fort St. John Cemetery

Join us for a guided cemetery tour of the Fort St. John Cemetery on 100 Ave. Learn about the connection of many of the people buried there to the Alaska Highway. From construction workers to entrepreneurs to ambulance drivers, the cemetery is full of people who worked and lived along the highway. Tour is $10 and can be paid at the gate of the cemetery prior to the tour. Call 250-787-0430 for more information.

May 5, 2017 – August 15, 2017 at the Fort St. John North Peace Museum

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the First World War, the Fort St. John North Peace Museum is pleased to host the travelling exhibit Keepsakes of Conflict: Trench Art and Other Canadian War-Related Craft. This exhibit is curated by Heather Smith and organized by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery.  It looks at the little-studied area of Canadian craft related to war. Trench art refers to items made by soldiers, prisoners of war and civilians from war-related or other materials during times of armed conflict. Regular admission fees apply. Come on down to one of Fort St. John’s largest and most amazing yard sales of the year. Find new treasures for your home and family. We are accepting donations of books, household items, toys, sports equipment, etc. We are NOT accepting clothing or large electronics and appliances. We cannot accept car seats or booster seats. SPRA is looking for a New Executive Director

South Peace Regional Archives Society is seeking a resourceful, energetic person with a commitment to preserving local history for the position of Executive Director. The director is responsible for management and leadership in the Archives and supervises three additional staff members.

Qualifications/Abilities:

  • Relevant degree in Business, History or other suitable discipline.
  • Willingness to train in Archival practices.
  • Ability to promote the Archives in the community.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Aptitude for independent decision making and acting with initiative.
  • Supervisory and interpersonal skills to motivate staff and volunteers.

Find out what the buzz is all about. Discover the construction of the Alaska Highway through the eyes of a mosquito. This story combines historic photographs with an animated cast of insects. Make mosquito crafts and participate in mosquito activities. REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY AND LIMITED. Event tickets are $5/child or $10/family and must be purchased at the museum in advance. Reunite with old characters and meet new characters from the North Peace’s past. Experience life on the Alaska Highway by interacting with characters from Fort St. John’s past. Meet Duncan Cran (surveyor), Rudy Schubert (photographer), Ma Murray (editor of the Alaska Highway News), Lawrence Clay (B.C. Policeman), Zylpha Alexander (laundress), Lena Galen (seamstress), Iris Woolcock (early tourist), and more!  Adults – $12 • Seniors (65+) – $8 • Students – $5 • Under 5 – Free
