NAR Station Museum, Dawson Creek
This stove was used in Wong’s Laundry/Cleaners in Dawson Creek in the 1940’s. Chinese entrepreneurs were present early on in many Peace Country communities including Grande Prairie, Peace River and Fairview. They often ran restaurants and laundries, which provided important services to their communities. At Wong’s, the stove heated the sad irons that were chained around the stove. The business was sold to Holem’s and later to Empire Cleaners. The stove was donated to the museum in 1977.
