1792
Peace River Museum and Archives
Late in 1792, after having travelled up the Peace River from Fort Chipewyan, Alexander Mackenzie and his voyageur crew arrived to spend the winter at Fort Fork. In May 1793, Mackenzie and his crew continued up the Peace River, working their way through the river network of British Columbia, and along the 250 km Grease Trail before reaching the Dean Channel and the Pacific Ocean. This journey marked the first trans-continental journey across North America, north of Mexico, by a European.
