Canada’s most northerly Dominion Agriculture Research Station was established in 1907 by F. S. Lawrence at Fort Vermilion. The following year the Experimental Farm was established. This area is Canada’s northernmost agricultural region. Keeping weather records was an important task as it helped determine if the region was suitable for long-term agricultural development. The Archives of the Experimental Farm are housed at the Fort Vermilion Heritage Centre’s Museum & Archives, which opened in 1995.
