Native Cultural Arts Museum
This fish scale art was created by Dorothy Joyce Hunt, a local Cree artist from Joussard, Alberta, and was purchased by the Museum in 2007. This type of artwork uses the scales of a whitefish, and sometimes the bones of the fish, to form depictions of flowers, leaves, and other objects. The scales are first cleaned and then dyed various colours to create a colorful work of art.
This particular piece depicts two yellow moccasins with a blue design on them, and has a painted yellow and orange background.
