76 - pump organ

ca. 1930’s

Fort St. John North Peace Museum

This pump organ was used in United Churches in the Montney-North Pine area of British Columbia. Music was important to these congregations; so, the organ was shared between five churches that were under the supervision of one minister.

On Sunday mornings, the organ was used at the North Pine church. It was then packed up in its case and hauled around for the Sunday church rotation in the back of a pickup. Services rotated each Sunday afternoon between Rose Prairie, Murdale, or Pine View. Then the organ was packed up again for a final evening service in the Montney church.
