Mrs. Laura DeBolt’s Bake Table, was donated to the museum by Clifford DeBolt and it tells the story of the early homestead kitchen. Laura and husband Elbert ran the first post office in what is now the DeBolt area, in East Smoky/Ridgevalley area. This is where the hamlet of DeBolt gets its name. The DeBolts arrived in 1919, homesteaded, ran the Post Office out of their home, and they partnered with Laura’s brother, John Bickell in the first sawmill in the area.
