The Assumption Indian Residential School, located at modern day Chateh, AB, was opened around 1951. An isolated community, these radio beacons were used at the mission to signal pilots. They were also used for Rainbow Lake, a community about 60 kilometres southwest of Chateh which had its beginnings in the 1960s with the development of oil and gas in the region. The Residential School closed in 1965, and the beacons were later donated by Father Montmigny to Musee Girouxville Museum.
